What Maths connections can we make with everyday life situations?
When playing live Mathletics, make sure you focus upon playing all levels with the main focus upon accuracy over the first 30 seconds before picking up the pace. Don't strike out!!!
(Reading, writing and representing Tenths and Hundrdredths as Decimal Fractions.) 2.5 is the same as 2 wholes and 5 bits out of 10 or two and five tenths. 3.25 is the same as 3 wholes and 25 bits out of 100 or three and twenty five hundredths.
Also the kids have been given Mathletics tasks to do with the Maths topic we are covering or perhaps a future topic. You will be given 3 tasks. Make sure you gain 90 or 100% in each of these tasks. Do each one 3 times, so you will become more confident within your Maths.
Try to keep up to date with your tasks, otherwise you will end up with too many to do in your weekends!!!

In the next couple of weeks in Term One, we will start to make connections between multiplication and division. We will also attempt to make sense of decimals, fractions and percentages, and how they relate to everyday maths. Children can make use of their stop watches to help consolidate their understanding, that seconds can be broken down even smaller such as in a running race. The world record for the mens 100 metres is 9:58 seconds. 9 whole seconds and a bit of a second....58/100 (fifty-eight hundredths) Click on this picture to help practise place value with decimals.
Make sure you reflect each night upon all your work we cover in class.
Go on to Mathletics at least every second day, at the very least. Sign in with your Mathletics username and password. If you play the live 1 minute games, the secret to a great score is to not strike out. Start off steady, focusing upon accuracy for the first 30 seconds. If you have no strikes, then now is the time to take some risks and go faster. Remember to slow down if you have 2 strikes and get to the end of the 60 seconds to gain as many points as possible. This is the best strategy to maximise your score.
Make sure you complete your homework on time or you may fall behind the rest of the class!!!
PARENTS: At the bottom of this page, you will find extra Maths sheets to print off at home. Please use these, as they will help consolidate our kids Maths.
It is very important for you to learn your times-tables. There are many fun ways to do this and even some videos on Matheletics with some rap. We will start maths challenges in week 8, for our maths class. Who is the best at their times-tables in Mr Blair's Maths Class? Is it Ahmed D? Is it Maitha? Or is it you? If you are not sure what challenges are all about, check out the video at the bottom of this page between Aisha and Abdelrahman.
